Trauma exists in every individual

Often symptoms of PTSD or CPTSD can exist in a person after significant trauma has occurred. It is difficult for an individual to understand why they are triggered by seemingly insignificant sounds, smell, events that produce fear and or anxiety and responses such as flashbacks to the trauma.

As trauma specialists, we will be supporting you every step of your way in recovery with attention and care to connect your trauma with your emotional and psychological well-being.

Benefits of Counselling

Trauma leaves an indelible mark on the mind, frequently accompanied by PTSD and/or CPTSD, which disrupts daily life in elusive and not-so-subtle ways. Healing from trauma requires more than simply time; it also necessitates understanding, patience, and confronting the messy aspects of life. This is where trauma-informed therapy comes in. This therapeutic method offers a way toward not just surviving but thriving by addressing the deep-rooted effects of trauma.

Healing from a traumatic incident requires recognising its profound impact on a person’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviours. The cornerstone to trauma-informed treatment is acknowledging that many people’s issues are not isolated but arise from these traumatic occurrences. Rather than addressing symptoms, this method seeks to identify the core problems and address them holistically.

What could I talk about in a session?

Psychotherapists are instrumental in trauma-informed care, offering a compassionate and personalized approach to healing. We recognise that trauma affects each individual differently and respond by creating environments that prioritise safety and trust. This empathetic approach allows clients to share their stories without fear of judgment, fostering a deeper connection and pathway to recovery. As Psychotherapists, we use our expertise to assess how trauma has impacted each person’s mental and emotional well-being, guiding them through tailored treatment plans.

Our role is not just about providing therapy but empowering clients to rebuild their lives with resilience. To deliver this level of care, social workers undergo rigorous training and continuous education. Psychotherapists stay prepared for real-world challenges, ensuring we can offer the highest standard of support to those healing from trauma.

What is trauma-informed therapy?

Trauma is a spectrum and can happen at any time and even before birth. Our unconscious has layers, we can have direct feedback from our mother’s nervous system and adapt accordingly to what is happening to the mother.

In therapy we understand different types of traumas exist and some are called big T traumas and little t traumas. Trauma can make a person feel stuck in life always in fight, flight, freeze or fawn mode.

Traumatic imprints are stored in the body, it has been researched that just talking therapy alone or simply bringing it up or talking about it over and over again can re-traumatise the person. The awareness that we store trauma in our physical bodies has to be made present.

A trauma is only over or resolved when the body knows it is over, the mind can say ‘that happened 5 or 10 years ago’ ten thousand times, if the body doesn’t realise that it’s over, it is still going to be active in our systems. The body needs to be aware and healed.

Do not let a traumatic event or experience become a traumatic imprint. Trauma is not a disorder, it is not ‘what is wrong with you’ rather ‘what happened to you’.

Different types of traumas:

1. Acute Trauma – single event, people can usually pinpoint the event

2. Developmental Trauma – any extended period of development (not specific to 0-7 years of age as we are always developing) that is more than a year and could be orienting around survival to attachment and safety

3. Preconscious/Precognitive Trauma – pre-cognitive in the womb and traumatic birthing experience and/or infant trauma passed on by the mother to prepare for adapting to the world

4. Intergenerational Trauma – a trauma response that is passed down from generations, it can be pass down environmentally and genealogically showing up as a personality trait but is a survival trait that got passed down from our environmental circumstances that was passed down from our primary caregivers

5. Collective Trauma – it is a worldwide phenomenon on how we adapt as a whole unconsciously to threats of our environment to survive for example to racial trauma, climate change, covid, etc

Unhealed trauma can show up in different ways, addictions and self-sabotage with relationships are just some of the effects.

The program and the imprinting from traumatic experiences can predict our behaviour for our day-to-day life. If our foundation or the core of us do not feel safe we will have an unsafe sense of the world and this will have an effect on our relationships.

You need a therapist who can recognise different types of trauma and an understanding that it can sometimes exist with developmental and other types of trauma at the same time. Safety is essential for healing so that you can move towards wholeness. Grounding and safety in trauma work is so important and it looks different to different people. We work to build safety slowly and steadily over time, it might feel slow at times but trust that as long as you are willing, you are moving towards healing.

We believe that mental well-being should be within reach for all individuals, irrespective of their background or situation.

That’s why we’re constructing a platform that is cost-effective, versatile, and effortlessly navigable.
